Summary and Recording for Jezebel, Part 1

Biblical Lessons from Jezebel, Part 1

King Ahab breaks covenant with God by marrying someone who served a false god.
1 Kings 16:31

            She was a Sidonian.
She was an idol worshiper.   She served Baal (A god in Canaan).
She led her husband astray as God had warned.

What God says about idols?

Exodus 20:3-6

3You shall have no other gods before me.
4You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me. 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

Leviticus 19:4

“Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves.  I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus 26:1

“Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it, I am the Lord your God.”

God direction on idol worship is clear.

What some of our idols?

Money
Other People
Anything that seeks to take the place of God

God must have first place!  He deserves all of our worship!

Galatians 5:19-20 lists the acts of the sinful nature.  Idolatry is on the list.

Idols are powerless!

1 Kings 18:22-38

The false prophets called on Baal.  False gods cannot hear, see, or smell!  Baal did not answer even after their carrying on with screaming and cutting themselves.

But the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel answered the man of God with fire!  He is God: who was, who is, and who is to come!  Bless His Holy name!
